GRANDX / WINTER EXPEDITION
LONESOME LAKE
AFTER DARK
Some trail days end at sunset. This one gets a second chapter.
WINTER CAMPING / TWO-DAY EXPERIENCE
THE ROAD IS ONLY
HALF THE STORY.
The snow gets deeper. The trees get quieter. And somewhere beyond the last stretch of pavement, winter turns an ordinary trail into an entirely different world.
We are heading back toward Lonesome Lake. But this time, we are not packing up when the daylight disappears. On January 30–31, GrandX is taking the winter trail experience into the night: two days exploring snow-covered forest roads around Greenwater, one night making camp in the mountains, and a morning you only get when you stayed out there to see it.
This is a real overnight backcountry adventure, not a day trip with an extra stop. Bring your rig, your cold-weather camp setup, and an appetite for the kind of quiet that only winter delivers.
THE EXPERIENCE
TWO DAYS. ONE NIGHT.
A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT WORLD.
INTO THE SNOW
Meet in the Greenwater area for the driver briefing, then follow GrandX into the forest. Expect winter scenery, changing snow depth, and a guided route that responds to whatever the mountains put in front of us. There will be time to stop, explore, and enjoy the snow, not simply race to a destination.
We will choose an appropriate, lawful backcountry camping spot and establish camp before dark. Set up your tent, rooftop tent, or vehicle sleep system, cook dinner, and spend the evening with the group. If conditions and fire restrictions permit, a campfire will be part of the night.
WAKE UP OUT THERE
Wake to a quiet winter forest, make something hot for breakfast, and take in that first light before breaking camp. There is something about snow in the morning that cannot be experienced on a one-day run.
After packing up, the group will make its way back out together. The exact route and return time depend on snowpack, road access, and the conditions we find.
WHEN THE ENGINES STOP
STAY FOR
THE NIGHT.
Cold air, warm food, good people, and the forest all to ourselves for a little while. This is not about checking another trail off a list. It is about being out there long enough for the whole atmosphere to change.
Bring your own camping equipment and meals. The experience is the guided drive, the shared camp, and a full winter night away from pavement.
WHAT YOU DRIVE
WINTER READY.
Arrive in a capable 4WD vehicle with all-terrain or dedicated snow tires and properly fitting chains. The previous GrandX Lonesome Lake winter event required these basics, and they remain a sensible baseline here. Working recovery points, a shovel, and suitable recovery gear are important when snow depth and traction are unpredictable.
Final vehicle requirements and route details will be confirmed before the trip.
WHAT YOU BRING
YOUR OWN WARMTH.
Plan to be self-sufficient for one winter night: cold-rated sleeping bag and insulated pad, winter-capable shelter or vehicle sleep system, warm and dry layers, lighting, water, food, a way to cook, and personal essentials.
Meals, personal camping gear, and a guaranteed campfire are not part of the advertised ticket inclusions.
FROM THE GRANDX FILM ARCHIVE
THE SEARCH FOR
THE FROZEN LAKE.
Last time, sixteen rigs went looking for the frozen lake. See the snow, the convoy, and the winter trail experience in our original film, then join us for the overnight chapter.

THE NIGHT IS CALLING.
Overnight booking details are being prepared. Registration price, exact check-in time, campsite arrangements, and ticket availability will be confirmed before reservations open.
ASK ABOUT THE WINTER CAMPSnow and road conditions determine the final route and campsite. Access to the Lonesome Lake shore itself is not guaranteed. GrandX may relocate the campsite, reroute, postpone, or cancel the outing if weather or lawful access requires it. Driving or camping on lake ice is not part of this experience. Fires only where and when permitted.
